MAD (Moderan Asian Dining)

I was at the Lotte Shopping Mall (LOVE), the one in kuningan I'm sure all of you know. I was about to grab a movie ticket and I saw MAD, which stands for Modern Asian Dining. I gotta say I hesitated to enter, it has this bright orange and neon printings, definitely reminds me of Disney mixed with Andy Warhol kind of vibe. But oh my, I was surprise by the size of the restaurant. From the outside, it looked like a normal entrance but 30 steps into the place, it was HUGEEE, with a capital H U G E! I really do mean it. I think it might cover more than 800 m2, the length of the restaurant was about 50 - 60 meters I think? I know you might think I sound hyperbolic by the bad description of just the 'size' but hey, you need to just enter the place to feel the space. Note : I didn't recommend you to try the food, but just enter and judge the space for yourself. Even better, it's entrance fee is FREE !

As for the food, I am not a big fan compare to the surprise I got by the size of the place :p hehehe

Menu : Pork Mantau
Price : Rp 80,000 ++
Score : 5.5 / 10

>> The photo in the menu made it look really tempting and I ordered. The taste was rather mediocre, the pork belly was juicy and has the right amount of hoisin sauce but apart from that, it's nothing special. Portion is too small for a Rp 80,000. Honestly feel this should be charged for Rp 35,000 instead of  Rp 80 K. A rip off? What do you think?

Menu : Laksa Lamien
Price : Rp 98,000 ++
Score : 6.0 / 10

>> So - So tasting laksa. I wasn't hoping to be better than the one sold in Singapore but I was far from being impressed. Portion was enough for a small adult female, soup was okay, wonton was cripsy, you know the ordinary. Bottom line, far from special, and I wouldn't miss having this. Btw, Din Tai Fung serves better tom yum lamien for only Rp 50,000 ... just something to think about :)
Menu : Josper Wagyu Claypot
Price : Rp 198,000 ++
Score : 6.0 / 10

>> Complete overpriced. Wagyu beef was okay (not brilliant), poach egg was perfect but Rp 198,000 ??? Come on, I think the price tag is not well suited with the ambiance. The place screams casual while the pricing is not casual at all.

Will I come back? Hmm...nope I don't think so. But you should !! See the perspective of the space and NOT the food. I warned you guys hehehehe...

Angus House

Got beef? I had some last week and a real good plate of it! It was FW's 31st birthday and as a celebration, Angus House was opted. We had an early dinner at around 6pm and thus the crowd wasn't busy. Just a couple of tables occupied. Well, the interior of the restaurant wasn't fancy at all. It was rather too plain for a fine dining restaurant. The color scheme were mainly white and black with a rather cheesy pink table cloths spread all over. But hey!! The steak is one of the best I've eaten by far. Worth the every bit of the splurge ^_^

If I may comment about the service, it was clearly that the staffs were well trained. Ask them about the entire menu and they all had memorized it very well. Table manners were a specific thing that they all performed while serving, pouring and even while clearing our plates. Well, you're spending an easy Rp 500,000 a head, thus immaculate manners  make sense. Therefore, I wouldn't complain any bit about the waitress but this way, rather gave a 'cold' feeling towards the customers.

Menu : Entree - set menu
Price : RP 345,000 ++ Set Menu
Score : 7.0 / 10

>> A succulent piece of prawns with a grilled white fish at the bottom. Served with a sauteed water spinach at the side. How does it taste? Love the prawns and the fish !!! The veges, well not so much. It was a plain well sauteed veges. The sauce was complementing too! It has the tangy taste and a hint of sweet chilli with it.

Menu : Mushroom Soup - set menu
Price : RP 345,000 ++ Set Menu
Score : 8.0 / 10

>> Yummmmm, but sadly too small of a portion. I'd love a big bowl of it. This mushroom soup is very creamy and yet doesn't give you that 'sick' feeling that you get after a big bowl of creamy pasta. Maybe it's the small portion, maybe it's the type of cream they use, or maybe it's just me and my tongue. But regardless, a solid 8 pointer from me !

Menu : Salad - set menu
Price : RP 345,000 ++ Set Menu
Score : 6.0 / 10

>> This salad is no question fresh and crisp. But as for the dressing, rather too plain for me. It's not a cream nor a mayo base dressing. It was a vinegar base. FW lovesss balsamic and thus he'll probably gave an eight. But it all comes down to a matter of taste. It was an okay for me.

Menu : Tenderloin 200 gram - set menu
Price : RP 345,000 ++ (Set Menu)
Score : 9.5 / 10

>> I regret of not ordering the 300 grams. This is sooo good. Well, to begin with, my fav part of a cow's is the tenderloin. It has the right amount of fat for my taste and the way the chef cooked it was perfect! I asked for a medium and I got a medium. Do you know how many times other steak chef gets the temperature of a meat wrong??!!! You asked for a medium and a medium well comes out, or worst destroy the meat by cooking a well done! But hey! yummmness is all in this plate. Steak cooked to perfection and would ordered the 300 grams one next time. Worth your money !!

Just to mention a few of other dishes that was ordered ala - carte (not included in the set menu)

Top Left : Abalone & Sea Urchin Pasta
Price : RP 160,000 ++
Score : 8.0 / 10

Top Right : Scallop Salad
Price : RP 110,000 ++
Score : 7.5 / 10

Right : Espanole Soup
Price : RP 50,000 ++
Score : 7.0 / 10

Well, last but not least, happy birhday F !! You're getting bald :p

Gyu Kaku

Gyu Kaku is a restaurant that previously never caught my eye. I'm not sure why but maybe it didn't have enough buzz about it. My cousin came back from Singapore and he wanted to try Gyu Kaku's  "Ox tongue", thus ending up having a dinner there. The Tofu Kimchi Chigae Soup completely took me by surprise and since then, I came back there quite often. Personally, I reckon' they have the best kimchi soup in J-Town. I might be exaggerating, but I simply LOVE it. Truly heavenly! Gyu Kaku is located at Plaza Indonesia, ground floor just across to Cork and Screw.
Menu : Tofu Kimchi Chigae Soup
Price : Rp 68,000++
Score : 8.5 / 10
» My goodnes this is SO GOOD! I loveeee the soup ohhh my lord yummy. Even though the stuffing was pretty much the same with normal kimchi soup, the soup is fragrant and thicker than normally. I can even taste the egg and chili plus the spices was heavenly good!!! A MUST have :)

Menu : Wagyu Rum Cap
Price : Rp 229,000++
Score : 6.5 / 10

» It is a bit pricey for 11 pieces of beef. Even though it's premium beef but I can't seem to appreciate beef too much. However I remembered someone said premium beef has marbled fats within the meat and if that statement is true then these meat slices are definitely premium!

Menu : Wagyu Nakaoshi
Price : Rp 176,000++ (Large = 140 grams)
Score : 7.0 / 10

» This premium beef was juicy and if you like meat with thick fats, then you'll like this for sure. I'm not a big fan of fatty meat but people who like those really enjoy this dish!

Menu : Beef Tounge (Gyu Tan)
Price : Rp 112,000 ++
Score : 6.5 / 10
» The gyu tan are actually fresh and nice. But somehow I always compare gyu tan I ate in Indo with the ones in Melbourne (Melbourne Central, Oishi : Gyu Tan Don). If only any restaurant can steal the recipe for the sauce Oishi uses ..nyuum! Someone please franchise that restaurant!
Menu : Assorted Grilled Sausage
Price : Rp 56,000++ (Small)
Score : 6.0 / 10

» This was not anything fancy or special. But I guess it was okay. A variety of sausages, some beef, some chicken. There's even one type with cheese in it.
