Chill Out - Gili Air (Lebaran'12)

This place was very much recommended by the staffs at Omah Gili. Chill out has the capacity of around 50 to 70 pax indoor but you can lay down outside facing directly to the beach, sipping ice cold beer while sun bathing under the scorching sunlight. I wouldn't know where or what to compare Gilir Air's super laid back and breathtaking serenity. It wasn't only Chill Out that provide such spectacular view, but it goes the same for many other restaurants and cafe.

Menu : Chicken Curry
Price : RP 35,000 ++
Score : 6.5 / 10

>> The curry came in pipping hot with steam still ashing out from the bowl. What I love best about this curry was the consistency! Exactly how I like my curry, not too viscous, not watery either. The portion is excellent! This comes with steam white rice and in addition, the fillings inside were generous. Mountains of vegetables and big chunks of chicken were in there. I wanted to give this a 7.5 pointer but the fact that this is a 'mild' curry turn this to a 6.5 dish. I personally thought it was lacking a 'kick' on the taste buds, again..too mild for my liking. Lack of curry spices and most importantly chili. But then again, adjusted to the main target consumers, the 'Bules'. Therefore, fully understandable :)

Note : This dish has a lot of potential !! A little more of this and that will make your taste buds go ' WOWWW' !!
Menu : Beef Burger
Price : RP 45,000 ++
Score : 7.5 / 10

>> I ordered Fried Rice and switched to this menu over here upon seeing another customer's beef burger sent over to their table. If wouldn't for that moment of 'laper mata' I don't think I'd order a burger. Nevertheless, this was good stuff! I would never expect to find such chunky and crispy and salty french fries over here. I thought it would be thin, greasy and soggy :p The beef patty was alright, nothing too special about it, but their home made mayonnaise was a star! The mayo sauce made the burger alive, add chili into and between each bun layers and you'll go eat in silence *not wanting anyone to interrupt your meal*. Thumbs up :)

Fat Burger

- The Original Fat Burger -
Man Vs. Fat Burger
I would have to admit that my first time having a burger at 'Fat Burger' was bad. I felt it was too oily at all level. Trust me, I handle greasy food very very well and have no issues about it depositing along my waistline but the amount that drips out while biting onto it, is quite horrifying. That 'first time' was close to about 1.5 years ago I think.

Last weekend, FW was craving for it, apparently it was his staple diet back in college days in the states. I agreed on giving this fast food joint a second chance. I visited their 2nd branch in Plaza Indonesia, Basement floor. For a fast food joint, I felt their service was too slow, however I must say this time round it was better than my first. Don't get me wrong, the burger is still FAT, is still high in calorie + cholesterol and all that but definitely a big improvement on the grease. You can have a single, double, triple, quadruple meat stacks in between your buns. (Go figure on how you're gonna bite into the burger) Additional eggs, cheese and bacon are also options. I like their 'fat chips', a good size for chewing and for those who like normal size fries, don't worry as 'skinny fries' are available too. For drinks, I tried their 'strawberry milkshake' but honestly, it wasn't that good. I'll stick to coke to sprite next time.

Overall, it wasn't a nightmare. Surely a better experience than my first. But is it a better burger than Burger King or Carl's Junior... that I don't think so ! I'm definitely sticking to my regular, unless FW is having his cravings again.

Velpa

Seven of us tried this for dinner on Saturday night. What lured us was the board sign saying "50% off on Food only" and that was eye catching for sure! With their discounted price tag, great cozy ambiance, no queue, quick service, flat TV screen (which was important at that time because there was soccer match on Man Utd vs. Everton), soothing live band playing easy listening songs and also beautiful acoustic voice the main lead vocal had, we all enjoyed our time there and finger crossed might be going back there again.

Menu : Alaska Short Ribs
Price : Rp 132,000 ++ (50% off)
Score : 6.25 / 10

>> The sauce actually tasted like 'rendan' which wasn't actually bad or disgusting. I liked it actually. The meat was tender and slips off easily the bone. However I'm concerned with the 'apple side dish' it tasted just wrong and honestly awful. I personally think they should have changed it with just some simple greens.
Menu : Steak with Pasta
Price : Rp 150,000++ (50% off)
Score : 6.75 / 10

>> The hero of the dish is the steak! Wonderfully seasoned, the meat is also tender and of the right serving size. The pasta was just to bland and dry. It was supposed to be aglio olio but I taste nothing but olive oil.
Menu : Panini Chicken Sandwich
Price : Rp 54,000++ (50% off)
Score : 6.0 / 10

>> It was alright for me. Nothing really stood out, it accomplish on the basic thing you asked for a sandwich but as I said, it is ordinary. I like the thinly mandolin cut fried chips though, it doesn't stuff you stomach even further due to the relatively big sandwich portion.
Menu : Dallas Burger
Price : Rp 66,000++ (50% off)
Score : 7.5 / 10

>> Love their BBQ sauce. It is spicy, salty, tangy, zesty, definitely great balanced sauce! Their home made fatty wagyu patties is not only thick but most importantly juicy and on top of that melted Swiss cheese with BBQ mushroom combined wonderfully together.
Menu : The Original Cowboys Steak
Price : Rp 152,000++  (50% off)
Score : 7.0 / 10

>> Even though David asked for a well done the meat wasn't tough as hell. It still retains the moisture and their "Jack Daniels" sauce was certainly different from the normal mushroom or black pepper sauce. Oh, I need to mention their mashed potatoes, soft and silky that just melts on yout tongue! YUMM!

T Grill

Two days ago, I had lunch at Benton Junction, Karawaci. Benton is a block of outdoor area dedicated to restaurants. I noticed a new eatery had just opened at the beginning of the year and decided to have a go there. I was pleasantly surprised by the lunch crowd and by the look of it, 80% of those crowd were uni kids studying just across the street. The ambiance was okay, wasn't too fancy or empty.

As it was my first time there, I wanted a burger and the waitress recommended me to get their popular burger. She explained it is humongous about triple the size of a normal burger! Together with that, chips and salad were served at the side too. I couldn't handle that much food for lunch and opted a healthier version of burger; Rice Burger!
Menu : Angel's Wings
Price : Rp 29,500
Score : 5.75 / 10

>> BBQ sauce is yummy !! But the french fries' portion is pathetic -_-l". Honestly for the price I expect slightly more fries and they charge you for extra cheese sauce too ! Overall in comparison I'll still choose Pizza Hut's buffalo wings.
Menu : Samurai Rice Burger
Price : Rp 33,500
Score : 6.0 / 10

>> Need more seasoning definitely! The presentation and ingredients combination is superb but not enough salt and pepper for sure! I like the filling combination inside; onion rings, beef stir fry, mushrooms with mushroom sauce, all stacked in between the goodness of rice patties.
Menu : So Sweet
Price : Rp 24,500
Score : 5.5 / 10

>> The ice cream scoop is generous but the brownies at the bottom is slightly too thinly cut and thus turned pathetic. Definitely not enough and I want more. I like it though because it is warm and chewy!

Ninety - Nine

There was a midnight sale from 7pm - 1am in Grand Indonesia last weekend and I made my way there with a couple of friends for dinner before doing some shopping therapy. We had dinner at the Ninety - Nine, Ranch Market. I like the design and layout of the place. It is very 'open' and comfy. The selection of desert is just abundantly amazing; they even have a store specially catered for french pastry. The main course selections were well priced and on top of that delicious! Every one's dish tastes really good and everyone left the place feeling satisfied and will be coming back soon for more!

Half Roasted Chicken Rp 69,000++ & Australian Grain Fed Beef Burger Rp 79,000++

Menu : Tenderloin Steak
Price : Rp 129,000++
Score : 7.5 / 10

» Very very very tender! Every cut of this meat screams "EAT ME"!!! The mushroom sauce was beautiful and salad at the side were crunchy too! On top of that, look that thickness of the meat. Good stuff :)
Menu : Sop Buntut Sembilan Sembilan
Price : Rp 79,000++
Score : 6.5 / 10

» I personally think what makes a good oxtail soup is the broth. That is the most important factor of the dish; the make it or break it element. And this definitely has a great broth!!! Serves quite a big portion and satisfying indeed.
Menu : The Ultimate Beef Eater
Price : Rp 79,000++
Score : 6.5 / 10

>> The base was the right thickness for my liking, it wasn't too thin yet not thick at all. The meat was generous and well sauced and spiced. But if you don't like black olives, then you shouldn't order this, or you'll have to fork them out all over.
Menu : Chili Fries with Cheddar jalapeno Sauce
Price : Rp 39,000++
Score : 6.25 / 10

>> This was actually a side dish to the tenderloin steak main course. Though I had to pay extra money for the side dish but I think it's worth it. The fries served was generous and the dipping was yummy! The meat and bean gravy may look disgusting but don't be mistaken, it's good!!

Menu : " Bonjour French Pastry" : Chocolate mousse
Price : Rp 32,000
Score: 7.0/10

>> This cake reminds me that I can always eat dessert NO MATTER how full I am. I can feel the genuine goodness of the cocoa coming out hahaha!

Menu : Strawberry Mousse
Price : Rp 30,000++
Score : 6.0 / 10

>> Soft and Sweet just the way I like it. It would have been much much better if the crust was crispy. The use a sweet bread instead. However, the fresh strawberry made up for it.
